…. Become an avid reader

I have helped many people particularly students over the years to increase their love of reading. It is a habit pure and simple and like running or any kind of sport or artistic practice it requires, firstly time, and secondly application. The most simple method I have come across that helps you to move through a large passage of text is what I call the postit technique. Take the book and say to yourself “Now lovely (which is referring of course to your lovely self) over how many days do I want to read the book?” Or alternatively “Darling (this is you too, your darling self) soon to be most expert reader when do I want to finish this book?” Say you believe that you could comfortably read it in seven days. Then take up your trusty sticky notes and divide the pages up into seven equal chunks. Mark each reading section with a postit note. Now the discipline and the work comes into play. Set a time each day to read (set an alarm on your phone) and sit in the most comfortable chair in your household. Make sure you are warm and have good light. Set a cuppa down beside you or a glass of wine and simply read to the next sticky note.
